The Severn Beach Line – A Poem

A First Great Western Class 143 Pacer DMU calls at Sea Mills with a train for Bristol Temple Meads in 2008

1st October was National Poetry Day. What better excuse do we need to remind you of David C Johnson’s poem “The Severn Beach Line”, narrated by the poet to Diana Taylor’s video of the line?

The video dates from 2010. It is interesting to see the changes between 2010 and 2020! Two-car class 143 Pacers have been swapped for Class 166 Turbos, the mail conveyor at Temple Meads has been demolished, platform shelters have been upgraded – any more changes spotted by eagle-eyed viewers?

Additionally, today’s viewer watches the video through the lens of COVID-19 – wot, no social distancing!
