The line heading west from Bristol Temple Meads to Parson Street was once, like Filton Bank, a four-track railway.
Rationalisation has reduced its capacity. One track has been partially removed, and the layout has little room for new services. The introduction of trains to Portishead, which will use this route before turning off at Parson Street Junction, will add to this problem.
The West of England Combined Authority have included reinstating four tracks from Bristol Temple Meads to Parson Street in their ten-year rail plan.
