Walks by Train

FoSBR founder Julie Boston died in 2022 after a long life of campaigning. Julie was a keen ambler who regularly went on walks by train. Striding out from our local stations, she would often stop to draw attention to points of interest.

In her memory we’ve compiled some of Julie Boston’s favourite walks here, all accessible by local train or bus:

Many of these walks were planned, tested and documented by John Beales, a walk leader with Bristol Amblers. Bristol Amblers operate a free and friendly Walking for Health (WfH) group. Their walks are usually 5km or less, and suitable for the over 55’s as a safe and sociable form of moderate exercise.

We will add new walks here as we discover them. If you have a favourite walk that we haven’t described here, please let us know about it. As long as it is accessed using public transport, and we will be happy to publish it.

Steve Melia has listed more walks on his website. If you’re up for a slightly longer walk, slightly further afield, it’s worth checking them out too!
