The Bristol area contains a huge variety of places; from beautiful countryside to harsh industrial landscapes; from leafy suburbs to vibrant inner cities. We have put together some walks from local stations, because the best way to see these places is to walk, and the best way to get there is by train.
A few years ago we published a booklet of walks from local stations on the Severn Beach line, by Bristol Amblers walk leader John Beales.
We have now made these walks easier to access, and will be adding new ones from time to time. Walks by Train is a new section of to this website, from where you can browse and hopefully find a walk to suit you. Each walk has its own page, with a detailed map. A summary gives details of train service frequency, distance, and how long you should allow.
The walks are fully described, stopping along the way in true Julie Boston style to discuss points of interest!
We hope you are inspired to try some of them. If you have a favourite walk from a local station that isn’t listed here, please let us know using the comment form below so we can share it!
