Severn Beach line tops 1.4 million passengers

Train at Montpelier

Figures from GWR published by Severnside Community Rail Partnership show that usage of the Severn Beach line reached a new high of 1,407,102 journeys during the calendar year 2019.

These figures, from GWR ticket sales, are conservative. They include only GWR journeys, and may not include some journeys made on Rover tickets or employee passes, or on substitute buses.

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) usage statistics, released in January 2020, give a more mixed picture but cover the year ending March 2019. This means they include the 3-week blockade of Filton Bank together with a number of weekend closures.

We have updated our passenger growth page with graphs showing how these numbers compare with previous years.

It is very good to see that the trend established in 2008, when services on the Severn Beach Line were improved, has resumed.
