From December 15th there will be changes to timetables to improve the GWR Bristol-London service. When the new timetable is introduced, the fastest journey times between Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington will be cut to 1 hour 19 minutes. This is 17 minutes faster than the previous typical journey time. Also journey times into London, non-stop from Bristol Parkway, will be cut to just 1 hour 8 minutes. Trains to London will also be more frequent, with three an hour at peak times instead of two, both from Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway.
The timetable change also affects local services.
While there are no major changes to the frequency of weekday Severn Beach Line trains, most timings are different. Please make sure you check the GWR website before you travel. From December 15th the Severn Beach Line will see an improved Sunday service to Severn Beach.
There are also changes to the stopping pattern of local trains between Bristol Temple Meads, Lawrence Hill, Stapleton Road, Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Parkway. Some trains will now terminate or start at Filton Abbey Wood where previously they terminated or started at Bristol Parkway. FOSBR are concerned that this change will result in longer journey times for some passengers.
GWR have produced a leaflet summarising these changes, which lists onward bus services. GWR have relaxed ticketing restrictions so that passengers who have to travel to Bristol Temple Meads to complete a journey to Bristol Parkway won’t pay more. Again, please make sure you check the GWR website before you travel.
GWR is encouraging customers to find out more at https://www.gwr.com/plan-journey/timetable-2019.
FOSBR continue to monitor the reliability of the local services in case the new timetable impacts the punctuality of local services.
