In April 2018 Network Rail completed the Bristol Area Signalling Renewals and Enhancements (BASRE) project, an upgrade of signalling in and around Bristol Temple Meads. They replaced 1970s analogue signalling with digital signalling equipment, to improve reliability, flexibility and resilience.
As a result, most signals in Bristol are now controlled from a state of the art signalling centre in Didcot rather than the signalling room behind Bristol Temple Meads station. Tweaks in July 2018 to Automatic Route Setting (ARS) improved Narroways Junction regulation.
BASRE will include further phases in the surrounding area through Bath and as far as Parson Street Junction.
